Sjekk alltid NTNU egne sider for detaljene.

The study program has an above average work load, at least 1700 hours per year, in part due to several moves and cultural experiences, starting in France (Saint-Etienne) - then Italy (Polito, Torino) before arriving to NTNU in Gjøvik for the final year and specialization.
In addition to a full workload similar to that of a comparable "Sivilingeniør-study at NTNU", the students are also expected to follow language courses and a mandatory summer school including courses on management, and a course/introduction to the scientific method and tools for both reading and writing scientific literature in our context.
The study program will be evaluated with the consortium partners in line with the requirements set out by the grant agreement.
The QA-system at NTNU serves as a guide for the study program.
Upon completing the study program "meta 4.0 - Digital Manufacturing” the student:
Shall be able to design Manufacturing Execution Systems in a learning factory context
Shall be able to use Simulation tools, and applied modeling through a functional approach to materials, processes and product design
Will be able to carry out development and research on manufacturing technology and systems
Will be able to carry out techno-economic assessment and life-cycle analysis, in the context of sustainable, smart manufacturing with a focus on the aluminium value chain (elective).
Shall be able to give feedback to others
Shall be able to write Scientific reports
Upon completing the "meta 4.0 - Digital Manufacturing” specialization, the candidate should be able to contribute to new thinking and innovation processes and have general competence in:
converting data into information
systems thinking in terms of systems architecture, and boundaries including human centric and machine centric views
team working and communication with stakeholders and the public, including a multi-national and cultural view
Having completed the study program "meta 4.0, specialized in Digital Manufacturing” the candidate has built a solid foundation in materials science, methods and processes relevant for leading engineering roles in manufacturing. In particular, depending on chosen topic and the domain of knowledge and tools practiced in the extended project work and master thesis the candidate:
Shall have in depth understanding of bottom-up and top-down holistic view of manufacturing systems
Will have deep knowledge of Digital Manufacturing, including digital twins and supporting modeling and simulations tools
Shall have knowledge of implementation of Cyber Physical Manufacturing Systems
Will have competence in parametric design for industrial prodution (elective),
Shall have knowledge in industrial robotics, industrial automation and control engineering (elective)
Candidates are expected to take on real-world challenges/problems based on industrial projects and development work. Students select a topic together with their supervisor - as relevant for industrial stakeholders involved in the study program- either directly including work-placement and/or indirectly in participation in industrial research and innovation projects located in laboratories at NTNU or in labs offered through cooperating research institutes/universities.
At NTNU in Gjøvik students are introduced to the network of manufacturing enterprises located on and close to the campus (Raufoss and regional stakeholders) - not least through the established "Learning Factory" infrastructure and pedagogy.
Students are also expected to join summer schools and regular lectures on campus - including invited guest lecturers from industry and research institutes contributing to the study program.
Do you want to find solutions to challenges with manufacturing 4.0?
As a student on Master in Manufacturing 4.0 by Intelligent and Sustainable Technologies (META 4.0) you get the competence to use simulation tools to find solutions to sustainable manufacturing. You will learn about bottom-up and top-down holistic view of manufacturing systems, digital twins and supporting modelling and simulations tools, cyber physical manufacturing systems, industrial robotics, industrial automation and control engineering. Throughout the master’s programme you will get to design manufacturing execution systems, carry out research on manufacturing technology and carry out life-cycle analysis.
META 4.0 is a collaboration between six universities in Europe. You get to spend at least one semester (30 ECTS) at two different partner universities.
Semester 1
In Saint-Etienne, students will be taught the basics of production engineering and specific knowledge on a wide range of key manufacturing technologies.
Whereas the technical aspects will be a significant part of these courses, the covered topics will also be used to disseminate theoretical knowledge in fundamental sciences such as mathematics, computer science and mechanics.
The semester will end mid-February and students will then move to Italy for the next semester.
Semester 2
All the students will move to Torino (Italy) and will start their semester around the last week of February.
The strength of meta4.0 is to fit its graduates with the best level of knowledge on Manufacturing but also on Materials science. Therefore, this semester will be dedicated to materials for advanced manufacturing, materials design, materials forming and surface science and technology, including techniques to investigate structure and properties of materials.
Italian language classes will be available on a non-credit basis.
Semester 3
Digital Manufacturing
One fourth of the students will spend this semester in Gjøvik (Norway) to attend courses specialized in Digital Manufacturing.
Topics such as modelling and simulation, Industrial Communications and artificial intelligence will be covered.
Semester 4
The Master thesis will be written based on 5 month work placement either in an industrial or applied research environment, research laboratory of a partner university on a joint topic or in an associate partner organization or any other company or institution offering oriented topic for the master thesis.
Upon graduating from the study program the successful candidate is very well qualified to apply for positions as a PhD-candidate for many relevant research projects in Europe and elsewhere, preferably in cooperation with a suitable manufacturing enterprise.
A few candidates may also wish to pursue a management role, and may consider adding an MBA or similar in cooperation with a future employer.
Upon completion of the study program candidates are qualified for a variety of jobs including:
In addition, candidates will be valuable in various consulting jobs and enterprise management with a strong technical focus. This master's degree can also be a stepping stone for an academic career.
