This course is designed to provide an introduction to Ibsen || chr(38) ||rsquo;s dramatic works in the light of biographical data and with emphasis on the aesthetic, philosophical, psychological, historical, political and other impulses that had an impact on its coming into being. Selected works from his oeuvre will be examined against the background of changing literary paradigms in Ibsen || chr(38) ||rsquo;s own time. Special attention will be paid to Ibsen || chr(38) ||rsquo;s renewal of the dramatic tradition
To provide insight into a selection of Ibsen || chr(38) ||rsquo;s oeuvre, with emphasis on a biographical, historical and aesthetic perspective and its attendant methodological approaches.
Basic knowledge of Ibsen || chr(38) ||rsquo;s works and the ability to carry out in-depth studies.
Bachelor || chr(38) ||rsquo;s Degree or an equivalent qualification.

Classes are given throughout the semester and consist of a one-hour lecture and a one-hour seminar each week, 20 hours in total. Each student must submit a short 5-page (approximately 2300 characters without spaces) qualifying paper assigned by the teacher during the course of the seminar. The qualifying assignment must be approved by the instructor before the student can take the final exam.
