Theory and Methods in Ibsen Studies

After completing this course, the students are expected:

• to engage with broader theoretical discourses relevant to Ibsen studies
• to identify and apply theory that is relevant to interdisciplinary Ibsen studies
• to understand how theory informs and shapes methodology
• to develop and articulate an analytical method that is appropriate for the proposed master’s thesis
• to present a written description of the proposed master’s thesis

To be eligible for this course, you must be enrolled in the following master`s program:

• HFM2-IBS

Students who are admitted to study programmes at UiO must each semester register which courses and exams they wish to sign up for in Studentweb.

Classes are given throughout the semester and consist of seminars each week, 20 hours in total.

Two texts are to be submitted in Canvas by given deadlines during the semester, and students will receive feedback on both texts. This compulsory activity has to be approved by the lecturer to be able to take the exam.

Approved compulsory activities are valid for the next two semesters.

A student who has completed compulsory instruction and coursework and has had these approved, is not entitled to repeat that instruction and coursework. A student who has been admitted to a course, but who has not completed compulsory instruction and coursework or had these approved, is entitled to repeat that instruction and coursework, depending on available capacity.
