NTNU sin egen emnebeskrivelse — læringsutbytte, innhold og vurderingsform.
This course provides knowledge in writing project proposals, designing projects and running them in the context of development cooperation (and in the humanitarian sector). A specific focus lies on the skills necessary for working with multi-stakeholder project groups.
Keywords: Rational Management, Project Definition, Project Planning Matrix, Logical-Frame Approach (Logframe), Risk Management, SMART Indicators, Theory of Change, Strategic project planning, Moderation and Negotiation and Conflict resolution, Learning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Impact Assessment and project feasibility.
During the course students in groups develop projects according to their own interests in development and/or emergency practice and write a respective project proposal. The idea is to develop a proposal from an initial idea to a small workable project (including a budget) that could be implemented using the tools and approaches presented in class. To achieve this, the module follows a project life cycle approach, from initiation and needs assessment to project design, implementation, closure learning and evaluation. Especially the discussion and examination on the role of multi-stakeholder settings and partnerships in development project will play an important role.
The course will be assessed based on two reports - one written individually and the other in group.
Should a student fail the course they will be required to resubmit their failed assignment in order to be reevaluated. Reevaluations of failed grades are on a rolling basis. Reevaluations of grade improvements are only possible during the next exam period.
Sessions will comprise lectures, exercises, case study reviews from development cooperation and post-disaster reconstruction programmes, and group work around the development of project proposals.
This course is offered to international master's students. Language of instruction is English.
