Sjekk alltid NTNU egne sider for detaljene.

Introduction
A Naval Architect is a professional able to understand and design large and complex marine structures, such as ships and offshore structures. There structures consist of thousands of components that are assembled into a unique solution. The ship operates most of its lifecycle in the layer between water and air, and it needs to perform under severe environmental conditions.
NTNU in Ålesund is situated in the middle of the world's largest maritime cluster, and you will benefit from international and regional expertise. It is a great engineering challenge to design new ships and onboard systems that can turn shipping into the most efficient, safe and environmentally friendly means of transportation in the future. New ship design is typically developed in response to needs coming from new technologies, changes in the world politics, new strategies and lessons learned from previous ship development. A naval Architect can take into account all these factors when designing marine structures that intend to be excellent in their mission.
The study programme focuses in the design of ships and other structures for demanding marine operations. Naval Architecture encloses the disciplines that are necessary to design, simulate and evaluate the behaviour of marine structures, especially in five key areas: structure, seakeeping, speed, stability and style.
This master's degree programme teaches you how to handle requirements, analyse and simulate lots of different missions, such as transportation work of cargo and passengers, support of offshore operations, subsea installation, autonomous vessel, research, exploration and rescue.
A well-behaving ship is crucial in performing the complex operations necessary to support the installation of subsea field equipment. Simulation of the vessel behaviour can be used to plan the operation, to identify potential risks, to train the operative personnel, and to optimise the ship design for unique operations.
This master's degree programme combines fundamental and specialisation courses, with an updated and modern view on Naval Architecture, focusing on Digitalization, Digital Twin, Simulation and Programming. Digital tools are used in all courses, with emphasis in state-of-the-art software used by the Norwegian companies. The study is closely linked to the NTNU R&D activities ocean operations.
Aims and Goals
The programme focuses on the architecture, analyse and design of ships -equipment and maritime systems. As a graduate of our programme you can look forward to work with challenges connected to developing new designs, automated and remotely controlled deck solutions as well as new machinery and propulsion systems to meet both the strict economic requirements and the environmental goals aiming for zero emission. Innovative use of materials and developing equipment working in challenging environments, with below zero temperatures in northern regions and several thousand meters below the surface of the ocean, are other examples of advanced maritime operations to be carried out in near future.
The programme includes courses with various forms of assessment, such as written examinations, oral examinations, take-home examinations, compulsory project work and mandatory assignments. Courses may be assessed by using only one form of assessment, or by combining several forms of assessment. The course description of each course provides an overview of the weighting of each assessment.
In assessment, a six-point grading scale from A to F is used, as advised by the Norwegian Association of Higher Education Institutions (UHR), where F is a failing grade where no credits will be awarded for a course.

Part time study programs provide unique opportunities for combining theory and practice. Students who are employed can also link problems or projects relevant to their company to the theoretical concepts in the course.
The programme offers projects and MSc topics in cooperation with industrial partners.
Bachelor’s degree in Ocean Engineering, Naval Architecture or equivalent education.
The first year (full time study) is made up of 7 mandatory courses and the course Experts in Team Work (EiT). Each course is scheduled for a given day of the week. This scheduling makes part time study possible. Each module is taught intensively over a one week period.
The second year includes more specialized studies, including projects and a master thesis. Much of the programme is linked to industrial cases, and as a rule every MSc thesis is linked to an industrial partner or project.
For part time study, each case is treated separately, as the student and the program coordinator work together on an individual plan.

There is nothing more global than maritime activities, and specialists in maritime systems and operations have the world as a workplace. Students that are already employed by a company, can work on tasks initiated by the industry through the study. This way, linking the relevant challenges from business to theory, NTNU in Alesund will put you in touch with the maritime industry.
The program focuses on the architecture and simulation of large complex maritime structures, including ships, ship equipment and other maritime related systems. The students will be challenged in developing new solutions that are safe, environmentally friendly and efficient. The study is closely linked to NTNU in Aalesund's R&D activities on simulation and visualisation of vessel behaviour and marine operations.
The Naval Architecture program gives the possibility to learn how to design ships for demanding marine operations. A well-behaving ship is crucial in performing the complex operations necessary to support the installation of, for instance, offshore wind farms. Simulation of the vessel behaviour is used to plan the operation, to identify potential risks, to train the operative personnel, and to optimize the ship design for unique operations. In particular, the emphasis of the specialization is placed on the structural integrity of the hull and the hydrodynamic performance of the vessel. A thorough theoretical understanding in these fields is essential in exploiting the possibilities of the modern computer tools for analysis and simulation.
Part of the program combines theory and practice by letting students work in the nearby maritime companies. The maritime cluster around Aalesund is among the most complete in the World, strongly focused on Naval Architecture, and Norwegian maritime enterprises together form an internationally competitive, expertise-based industry that comprises an unrivalled degree of professionalism. The student is expected to acquire skills and attitudes to act efficiently within the international maritime industry with the design of maritime products and systems.
As a graduate in this program the student can look forward to working with challenges connected to the architecture, simulation and operation of maritime systems, meeting both the strict economic requirements and the environmental goals aiming for low emission. The student will be able to use and develop the next generation of simulation and visualization technologies for the design of offshore and maritime operations.
