Innovation Project in Life Sciences

Specific learning objectives that are to be fulfilled in the innovation project are that the student should be able to:

• in their project use essential in-depth knowledge of their major subject/field of study and relate this to the innovation process;
• choose and state one's reasons for selecting their project with respect to the innovation idea.
• contribute to the innovation process by evaluating the idea (or innovation project) when it comes to the goals, feasibility, competition, resource requirements, and adaptability.
• within the specific innovation project, identify which issues are of relevance and need to be addressed (or prioritized);
• identify and discuss needs for further elucidation of different aspects of the innovation process before decision-making or project realization, when relevant;
• based on a holistic view, critically, independently, and creatively identify, formulate, and deal with the complex issues of the innovation process;
• plan and, with adequate methods, carry out qualified tasks within the innovation process and also be able to evaluate this work;
• critically and systematically integrate knowledge;
• present and discuss their conclusions as well as the knowledge and arguments these are based upon both in spoken and written English;
• observe and discuss ethical aspects of the idea (or innovation project), both pertaining to how it is developed as well as its impacts when realized;

This course is part of the Life Science Innovation (honours certificate).

Students who are admitted to study programmes at UiO must each semester register which courses and exams they wish to sign up for in Studentweb.

Only students enrolled in the Life Science Innovation (honours certificate) can be admitted to this course.

The teaching consists of problem-based real-world cases and oral presentations.

Attendance at the first lecture is mandatory. You will loose your seat in the course if you do not show up or contact us at [email protected] before the first lecture starts.

Attendance at 80 percent of the course and compulsory submissions must be approved to pass the exam.

Access to teaching: A student who has completed compulsory instruction and coursework and has had these approved, is not entitled to repeat that instruction and coursework. A student who has been admitted to a course, but who has not completed compulsory instruction and coursework or had these approved, is entitled to repeat that instruction and coursework, depending on available capacity.

Compulsory participation and approved assignments are only valid in the semester in which they were approved.

The form of the exam is a portfolio exam with a final oral exam. The folder must contain submitted reflection notes and a summary of the project. During the oral exam, the folder's content, experiences from the project, and the student's oral performance are assessed.

The compulsory activities must be approved to do the final oral exam, and they are only valid in the semester in which they were approved.

Students who can document a valid reason for absence from the regular examination are offered a postponed examination at the beginning of the next semester.

Re-scheduled examinations are not offered to students who withdraw during, or did not pass, the original examination.
