This reading course is designed to meet individual needs of Master`s students within the programme option Japanese Studies after the student has selected a topic of the master’s thesis and has been assigned a supervisor (JAP4010). In consultation with the supervisor, you compile your own reading list on a subject area related to the topic of your planned Master`s thesis. The choice of literature should provide a good general basis of information on your topic and its wider significance. The literature should include a broad range of issues and perspectives.
The reading list should be around 1000 pages and must be approved by your supervisor. At least 10% of the reading list should be in Japanese. If the subject area is closely related to lower level courses, the reading list must be more advanced (representing in-depth theoretical or thematic study) and cannot include literature that has been used at earlier levels.

If you are not already enrolled as a student at UiO, please see our information about admission requirements and procedures. This course is reserved for students in HFM2-AAS:JAPST.
There will be one class in the beginning of the semester to give students information about the course and the review paper, and at least two individual supervisions by your supervisor during the semester.
Obligatory activities
All compulsory activities must be approved to qualify for the exam. It is your responsibility to verify that you have obtained approval for all compulsory activities.
Absence from compulsory activities:
It is important that you familiarize yourself with the rules regarding absence from compulsory activities, to prevent being excluded from teaching and losing your eligibility to take the exam.

Term paper. The exam is a review paper that should encompass 8-10 pages (2300 characters per page, not including spaces) plus bibliography. The topic is to be approved by the supervisor after the meeting(s) between the student and the supervisor.
The obligatory activities must be approved by both the course teacher and the supervisor in order to take the exam. Please see "Teaching" for more information.
You must submit the exam in Inspera - see guides for digital exams.
You are personally responsible for familiarizing yourself with the requirements and deadlines for the exam.
