Proteomics Basic Course

After successfully completing this course, you will have the following competences:

• Practical and theoretical knowledge in proteomics.
• Knowledge about common workflows for the large-scale analysis of proteins.
• Fundamental knowledge about quantification of proteomes.
• Understanding how to identify and quantify proteins from mass spectrometry data.
• Able to evaluate MS/MS data including de novo sequencing.
• Insight into the analysis of post-translational modifications and protein-protein interactions.
• On-hands experience with in-gel digestions, LC-ESI and MALDI mass spectrometry, protein identification and quantification, and functional data analysis.

If a course has limited intake capacity, priority will be given to PhD candidates who follow an individual education plan where this particular course is included. Some national researchers’ schools may have specific rules for ranking applicants for courses with limited intake capacity.

PhD candidates who have been admitted to another higher education institution must apply for a position as a visiting student within a given deadline.

• Lectures - 2 hours every day for 5 days
• Laboratory - 3 hours every day for 5 days

The course is given as a one-week intensive course and consists of a series of lectures followed by 3 hours training in lab. each day.

Both the lectures and the practical training in the lab are mandatory. As the teaching involves laboratory and/or field work, you should consider taking out a separate travel and personal risk insurance. Read about your insurance cover as a student.

• Oral examination.

If more than 10 students attend the course it will be offered as a three hour written exam.

Students who can document a valid reason for absence from the regular examination are offered a postponed examination at the beginning of the next semester.

Re-scheduled examinations are not offered to students who withdraw during, or did not pass, the original examination.
